The Oscars 2012

Posted by on April 2, 2012 at 5:09 pm in Celebrities

The Oscars not only brings with it an assortment of talent, it also showcases an array of hot threads.  Some super sought after designer or an up-and-coming talent has in fact designed most of the attire on show.

This is why the Oscars are one of the best places to look when it comes to style inspiration and the latest trends.

Stars flock in their masses to be seen on the red carpet, all of them wearing something incredible.  But how do we know where it’s from I hear you ask?  You will find the answer to the above question if you quite simply read on!

First up, the Vivienne Westwood dress worn by the Bridesmaid’s Star, Rose Byrne.  The slinky, sequinned one-shoulder number certainly turned a few heads at the recent Oscars.  The actress presented the Oscar for Best Documentary Film, teamed the statement dress with Chanel earrings and to-die-for Jimmy Choo heels.

Next up Kristen Wiig, who was nominated for her Bridesmaid’s script.  The star opted for a nude tulle strapless gown complete with a woven bodice and a hand pleated layered skirt by the designers J. Mendel and Neil Lane.  She teamed this cutesy outfit with a Judith Leiber clutch.  The look was finished with an edgy dark manicure.

Milla Jovovich chose an elegant and sophisticated number for the evening.  She most definitely wowed the public and paparazzi in a sequin Elie Saab Couture gown.  She was playing the part of a first time presenter at this year’s Oscars and in order to look the part, she accessorised the fab dress with a number of Jacob & Co jewels and an Edie Parker box clutch, which finished the look perfectly.

She kept her lips a deep red, her eyes a smoky shade and her skin flawless.  She wore her hair in a ringlet enthused style, which simply added to the sophistication of the dress!

Danger on the red carpet!

Posted by on March 28, 2012 at 11:49 am in Celebrities

Cheryl Cole is renowned for looking super stylish on the red carpet, with a team of stylists, designers and make-up artists at her beck and call, this news comes at no surprise.

She is often seen sporting outfits that none of us mere mortals would dream of wearing, not because they don’t look like works of art, but because we think that one wrong move could cause a major fashion disaster.  Such as revealing a lot more than we wanted to, tripping over the length of a sheer gown or putting a stiletto heel through an enviable pair of silk trousers.

If any of the above were to happen, we would of course be able to laugh it off, as more often than not, we would be with friends.  However if it were to happen to an A-list celeb, they would most likely be in front of a team of reporters, photographers, journalists, magazine staff and the public!

Cheryl Cole’s style may be copied by millions of woman globally, she isn’t however immune to her fair set of fashion faux pas!  One of the major fashion disasters described by the leading lady involved a lot of burgundy nail polish and an impeccably white dress.  The star goes on to say how in a rush, she realised everything wouldn’t be going as smoothly as first thought.  A rip in a dress, chipped nails and then a trip caused Miss Cole’s dress to appear a little different to its original design.  She overcame this disaster by cleverly holding her handbag over the smudge, which just shows that most fashion disasters can be overcome with a little tweaking!

Not all of us however have a team of stylists, designers and make-up artists at our beck and call in order to help us overcome such problems!

Pimp your style

Posted by on March 5, 2012 at 8:43 am in Celebrities

You may have heard of the hit TV show ‘Pimp My Ride’, well we are getting a little more personal and creating our own version in the shape of ‘Pimp My Style’.

Whether you wish to make the most of your colour or alternatively dress up your do, we have a few tips and tricks that will have you looking like an A-lister in no time!

Whether you wear your hair up or down, knowing how to create the ultimate style is a must!  If you are wearing your hair up on an evening out, you should be aware of a few things.  For example, tell your colourist you intend to wear your hair up a lot!  This way they can make sure that there are no exposed darker bits around the ears and the nape of the neck!

If you have super short hair, why not shake it up a little.  This will create a different looks that screams volume!  Alternatively go for the sleeker option and use a strong gel to slick it down into a far side parting.

Back combing the roots will hold the hairpins in place, which will make any style last a little longer!

A low loose chignon appears to be the hair do of the moment.  In order to achieve a similar style, you should begin by misting the locks with a hairspray.  Rough dry the look with a hairdryer for added texture.

Texture will add volume to the locks, which will in turn create a more glamorous style.

Begin by creating a low ponytail and twisting it into a bun.  For a carefree effect, allow little bits to fall out naturally.  This will create a sexy finish.  The key is to do it fast and not over-think it!

Alexa joins the BFC

Posted by on February 20, 2012 at 9:42 am in Celebrities

The British Fashion Council has recently announced a new style ambassador to be joining the already impressive team.

The new lady in question goes under the name of the infamously stylish Alexa Chung; she will join the current team of stylish individuals who include the likes of Laura Bailey, who is the cultural ambassador and Poppy Delevingne, who currently takes the title of young ambassador.

Alexa believes London to offer the best style; this is due to the fact that she feels people here are not afraid to be individual.  There is something extremely rebellious in the way people dress themselves in this city and the styles seen are so varied!

Brits are certainly one breed that are not afraid to experiment with their looks, this is possibly the reason for London being home to some of the most out going, outrageous and daring designers in the world.

Alexa is certainly one hell of a style connoisseur, which is possibly why she has been given the title of young style ambassador.  She certainly knows enough about the field to be able to give an unbiased and excellent view on the subject.

It is just as well, as she is now expected to champion those London designers in question.

The reason the leading lady was chosen is because she is an extremely influential figure in the world of fashion and TV.  This makes her a role model to many, especially when it comes to wearing the latest designer clobber.  This comes from the BFC chief executive.

She has also taken the title of the British Style Award at the British Fashion Awards for a consecutive two years!  We would say she is definitely worthy of this title and will hopefully be able to put her fashionable knowledge to some great use!

Top of the frocks

Posted by on January 9, 2012 at 10:29 am in Celebrities

Abbey Crouch, Kelly Brook, Olivia Palermo and Kate Hudson were all seen sporting some pretty daring dresses at the fashion Oscars this season!

Such creations came in the shape of Giles Deacon designs, Carlos Miele creations, Matthew Williamson masterpieces and Stella McCartney sheer styles.

As well as all of the above leading ladies sweeping the floor at the fashion Oscars, there was one particular stylista that caught our attention.

Miss Victoria Beckham not only looked one million dollars, she in fact won the designer brand of the year at last week’s British Fashion Awards.  She was very tearful on acceptance of the award, as we all would be on such a major appraisal!

The leading lady wowed in a black number from her own collection of course and teamed this sheer floor length dress with simple studs, smoky eyes, natural lips, swept back hair and her trademark skyscraper heels.

Victoria’s frocks have caused a huge stir in the fashion world and she currently dresses the likes of Cheryl Cole and Cameron Diaz.  There was however a little drama at the event as it is believed another stylish celeb snubbed the designer backstage.

Victoria Beckham’s dresses tend to ooze a certain element of sophistication, which makes them suitable to a variety of events.  These could be up market dinners, gallery opening, an important office meeting or alternatively an interview, if toned down with cutesy pumps as appose to skyscraper heels!

Team any one of her pieces with simple locks and natural make-up for a daytime look or alternatively statement eyes and luscious locks for an evening event.

Wherever you choose to wear one of Miss Beckham’s statement sophisticated numbers, you will guarantee to turn a few heads and will be most certainly the bell of the ball!  Dress up even further with statement jewellery.

Don’t be sheepish

It’s that time of the year when you need to inject some heat into your life.  What could be warmer than a sheepskin coat?

Popular many years ago this coat is now a fashionable trend; judging by the many celebrities wearing them.  Wink Tiffany at Revolveclothing.com has provided Holly Willoughby with a knee length vintage number while Ashley Tisdale sported a short white trimmed sheepskin jacket

See off those January blues in a fashionable way with many of the styles that are on the market today.

Emma Kniveton, who is More’s fashion assistant suggests a longer length sheepskin coat as this will in turn allow you to hide those unwanted problem areas, but short jackets tend to show off small waists and longer legs.

Ferne Cotton dressed her grey longer length jacket down by wearing jeans and short stylish booties.  The jacket was from Very.co.uk and can be purchased online at the site by any one that wishes to steal her effortless style.  While Amelia Lily rocked in a stylish item from Kiwi Boutique.

Of course the sheepskin jackets worn by the celebrities may be a little out of our price ranges.  There are however many sheepskin coats out in the shops at affordable prices, one of the best buys are from the high street favourite, Primark.  Their sheepskin coat comes in at only £25.  Coats that are also same price include those from the online fashion stores, Boohoo and Missguided.co.uk.  Both have a snug longer length jacket at £54.99.  The £60 Butterfly by Mathew Williamson sold at Debenhams is tan wit a side zipper and would grace any catwalk. So there is definitely no need to be sheepish, simply keep warm while looking great in these fabulous sheepskins.

Celeb’s wear high street too!

Posted by on November 28, 2011 at 10:18 am in Celebrities, Styles

You may think that celebrities only shop at the stores we can’t afford and getting our hands on anything we have seen them in to be a chore!  This isn’t however the case and as well as their usually designer splurges, celebrities do high street too!

Kristin from The Hill’s, Diana Vickers and Lydia are just a few of the A-list celebs that have recently been spotted working the high street.

Kristen opted for a cutesy red shift from a very infamous online fashion store. ASOS is the store in question and is currently selling the Kristen Cavallari shift, which offers a cut away detail at the waist, which to imply a slimmer figure!  We like!  The dress is priced at under £50 and is a great option for any seasonal parties you may have on the cards.  It also ticks all the festive boxes with that super red colour!

This particular dress can be worn as a simply shift, as a miniskirt when teamed with a cropped knit above the waist and as a daytime look by covering up the cut out detail with a wider belt.  Alternatively work the rock chick look and wear with a black caged ankle boots and a biker jacket.

Lydia was recently seen sporting a 70′s star print jewel toned dress, which screamed preppy when worn with a leather satchel and penny loafers.  This cutesy dress certainly covers three of this season’s major catwalk tones in the shape of it’s jewel tone, the star print and of course the 70′s style.

Diana went for the denim trend of the season by wearing a statement denim jacket with a cute shirt and sparkly skirt.  Work this trend into the winter months by layering a faux fur or leather gilet over the top!

A subtle pink lip

Posted by on November 3, 2011 at 3:23 pm in Celebrities

Forget brighter than bright if you want to impress your guy.  Apparently 51% of men prefer a subtle pink lip shade.  Take a few style tips from Blake Lively.  The stylish star loves a slick of simple lip gloss.

Check out Laura Mercier Lip Glace in bare, which will cost just £18.50.

It’s the perfect daytime look and will work just as well for work as it will on a shopping trip with the girls.

Don’t get me wrong, shocking colours can look fabulous occasionally but this look only suits certain events.  Rocking up to the office in an uber neon shade may not go down too well with the clients!

Red is more attention seeking so again only don this shade if you wish to cause a little bit of a stir!

style crushes 2011

Posted by on November 3, 2011 at 3:19 pm in Celebrities

One particular star that is really causing quite a style stir this season is Katy P!  Her style is somewhat eccentric but never the less makes us sit up and pay attention!

She is always over the top but some how manages to pull the looks off!

One thing she always manages to get right is her eyes.  her bright shadow and heavy lashes create that sultry ‘look at me ‘ look.  She is very Monroe is some of her looks, which is possibly why the guys go crazy for her!

However if you want to re-create the heavy lash look, make sure you don’t go overboard!

Too much can make you look like a drag queen rather than a sultry pop princess!

Va Va Voom lash mascara will enhance your own lashes and work to create that wide eyed look and finish the look by framing your eyes with super neat brows!

The star of the season

Posted by on September 26, 2011 at 10:58 am in Celebrities, General

This season Downton Abbey is the go-to TV show for all fashionista’s.  We don’t just mean the on screen to-die for vintage attire but also the off screen dress.

The three sisters that play Mary, Edith and Sybil are certainly often dressed to the nines in a series of delicate, embellished and vintage gear on set.  They are also however style icons off set and their dress sense is very much a little different.

Think sultry, daring and super eccentric, the three leading ladies often like to don the likes of Gucci and Dolce.

The three were recently seen wearing a series of very revealing yet classy outfits at a photo shoot.  One dress appeared as a very fitted body con number with sheer polka dot sides and sleeves.  A daring and statement outfit that reveals a lot yet in a stylish way.  Another outfit that caught the attention of those dressing the A-list actresses included a floor length gown revealing a cut away section at the neckline.  The middle sister Edith was seen sporting a long length gown with splits up both sides to reveal a bodice type garment with a plunging neckline and a revealing yet still classy back.  The look was finished with a rose petal esq shrug in a deep rich hue
