Top of the frocks

Posted by on January 9, 2012 at 10:29 am in Celebrities

Abbey Crouch, Kelly Brook, Olivia Palermo and Kate Hudson were all seen sporting some pretty daring dresses at the fashion Oscars this season!

Such creations came in the shape of Giles Deacon designs, Carlos Miele creations, Matthew Williamson masterpieces and Stella McCartney sheer styles.

As well as all of the above leading ladies sweeping the floor at the fashion Oscars, there was one particular stylista that caught our attention.

Miss Victoria Beckham not only looked one million dollars, she in fact won the designer brand of the year at last week’s British Fashion Awards.  She was very tearful on acceptance of the award, as we all would be on such a major appraisal!

The leading lady wowed in a black number from her own collection of course and teamed this sheer floor length dress with simple studs, smoky eyes, natural lips, swept back hair and her trademark skyscraper heels.

Victoria’s frocks have caused a huge stir in the fashion world and she currently dresses the likes of Cheryl Cole and Cameron Diaz.  There was however a little drama at the event as it is believed another stylish celeb snubbed the designer backstage.

Victoria Beckham’s dresses tend to ooze a certain element of sophistication, which makes them suitable to a variety of events.  These could be up market dinners, gallery opening, an important office meeting or alternatively an interview, if toned down with cutesy pumps as appose to skyscraper heels!

Team any one of her pieces with simple locks and natural make-up for a daytime look or alternatively statement eyes and luscious locks for an evening event.

Wherever you choose to wear one of Miss Beckham’s statement sophisticated numbers, you will guarantee to turn a few heads and will be most certainly the bell of the ball!  Dress up even further with statement jewellery.

Don’t be sheepish

It’s that time of the year when you need to inject some heat into your life.  What could be warmer than a sheepskin coat?

Popular many years ago this coat is now a fashionable trend; judging by the many celebrities wearing them.  Wink Tiffany at Revolveclothing.com has provided Holly Willoughby with a knee length vintage number while Ashley Tisdale sported a short white trimmed sheepskin jacket

See off those January blues in a fashionable way with many of the styles that are on the market today.

Emma Kniveton, who is More’s fashion assistant suggests a longer length sheepskin coat as this will in turn allow you to hide those unwanted problem areas, but short jackets tend to show off small waists and longer legs.

Ferne Cotton dressed her grey longer length jacket down by wearing jeans and short stylish booties.  The jacket was from Very.co.uk and can be purchased online at the site by any one that wishes to steal her effortless style.  While Amelia Lily rocked in a stylish item from Kiwi Boutique.

Of course the sheepskin jackets worn by the celebrities may be a little out of our price ranges.  There are however many sheepskin coats out in the shops at affordable prices, one of the best buys are from the high street favourite, Primark.  Their sheepskin coat comes in at only £25.  Coats that are also same price include those from the online fashion stores, Boohoo and Missguided.co.uk.  Both have a snug longer length jacket at £54.99.  The £60 Butterfly by Mathew Williamson sold at Debenhams is tan wit a side zipper and would grace any catwalk. So there is definitely no need to be sheepish, simply keep warm while looking great in these fabulous sheepskins.

Celebs do highstreet too!

Celebrities don’t just buy what ever they see emerge from the latest catwalk; they do that to of course!  But they also buy highstreet clobber on a regular basis!  Take the likes of Lily Allen for example; she is often snapped wearing the latest high street attire!  Assortments of celebrities have also been seen sporting several high street looks.

This is great news for those who want to steal the celebs style without breaking the bank.  A great tip for those that are on a budget is to mix high street with designer.  This way you will create a look that screams the best of both worlds!

High street stores and boutiques are actually causing quite a stir this year.  This is mainly due to the fact that they have been employing runway designers to collaborate with their high street stores.  Take Versace for example, she recently went into collaboration with H & M.  This designer duo certainly proved to be a big hit and it was reported that keen fashionistas in fact camped outside awaiting the high street opening.

Another recent collaboration has occurred with River Island.  They are now stocking some pretty amazing tights, in fact we think this introduction is the cause of the recent tight frenzy!  River Island are now stocking hosiery by Henry Holland.  They also have an assortment of designs in stock by Pretty Polly.  All are great looks for Christmas, as they will keep your legs nice and toasty, yet still look stylish and dressy!  This is certainly a little change from the average black opaque style.

Girl’s Aloud Original Nicola was recently seen sporting a pair of Henry Holland preppy style red sock tights.  They looked super cute with a statement boyfriend knit and cutesy shorts!  Mind with such a svelte figure, she most likely could pull off any look!

This is certainly a great style to invest in and one that seems to be growing by the minute!  Mind with such designer hosiery on the market, we will have to be extra careful not to put any ladders in our tights!

Celeb’s wear high street too!

You may think that celebrities only shop at the stores we can’t afford and getting our hands on anything we have seen them in to be a chore!  This isn’t however the case and as well as their usually designer splurges, celebrities do high street too!

Kristin from The Hill’s, Diana Vickers and Lydia are just a few of the A-list celebs that have recently been spotted working the high street.

Kristen opted for a cutesy red shift from a very infamous online fashion store. ASOS is the store in question and is currently selling the Kristen Cavallari shift, which offers a cut away detail at the waist, which to imply a slimmer figure!  We like!  The dress is priced at under £50 and is a great option for any seasonal parties you may have on the cards.  It also ticks all the festive boxes with that super red colour!

This particular dress can be worn as a simply shift, as a miniskirt when teamed with a cropped knit above the waist and as a daytime look by covering up the cut out detail with a wider belt.  Alternatively work the rock chick look and wear with a black caged ankle boots and a biker jacket.

Lydia was recently seen sporting a 70′s star print jewel toned dress, which screamed preppy when worn with a leather satchel and penny loafers.  This cutesy dress certainly covers three of this season’s major catwalk tones in the shape of it’s jewel tone, the star print and of course the 70′s style.

Diana went for the denim trend of the season by wearing a statement denim jacket with a cute shirt and sparkly skirt.  Work this trend into the winter months by layering a faux fur or leather gilet over the top!

Eva Mendes certainly has it sussed when it comes to looking super sultry.  We have a few tips on how to steal her style!

Her favourite make-up must-haves are said to be smoky eyeshades, try Dior 3 Ready To Wear Smoky Eyes Palette in Smoky Black.  Priced at £32, it is the perfect party get up and will take your look from day to night.

In order to keep her skin super flawless, the stylish star is said to prefer a foundation by Dr Perricone.  The ‘No Foundation’ Foundation will set you back a total of £41 but if it gives us a flawless look like Eva’s, who cares!!

In order to create a healthy head of hair like Eva’s, look no further than Pantene Pro-V Repair and Protect Intensive Hair Repair Treatment.  If the winter months are starting to take their toll on your hair, this nifty little product will boost them back into shape in no time!

In order to keep her lips super soft and also to create a great base for colour, Eva Mendes uses Dr Hauschka Lip Balm, which is available online and at selected beauty stores.

Finally to create a signature scent, Eva opts for Thierry Mugler Angel Eau de Toilette, prices start at £46 and again this scent is available from a variety of beauty counters and department stores nationwide.

If like Eva you operate a hectic working and social life, it is important to carry your go-to products with you at all times.  You never know when you may need them and looking uber gorgeous at all times is a must for us fashionista’s!

The best celeb hairstyles of 2011

Posted by on November 23, 2011 at 11:28 am in Styles

We are always looking to celebrities for inspiration when it comes to style, and hair is no exception. There have been many iconic hairstyles sported by celebrities over the years, and now with figures like Lady Gaga and Rihanna pushing the boat out even further when it comes to extreme styling, we are more inclined to try out new things ourselves. Yet simple classics still manage to hold their own in the hairstyling world – here are three of the top celebrity hairstyles of 2011.

When Emma Watson first had her severe haircut, shortening her Hermione locks into a stark pixie cut, there were many rumours as to the reason. Perhaps it was to distance herself from the iconic role she had played since childhood – perhaps it was to prepare for a new, distinctly different role. The truth is, though, Watson simply hit on a great style and wasn’t afraid to take the plunge and go for it. The stylist who helped with that transformation was Rodney Cutler, who says that he paid particular attention to shaping “precise, rounded layers” to “conform to the head shape”. Don’t be afraid to do something drastic with your hair this year – Emma Watson did, and her status as a fashion icon has only increased. Use a ghd hair straightener to get her sleek and sophisticated look.

Emma Watson sports the cutest of crops!

We love a good bob for 2011 as well, and when Jennifer Aniston decided to take a big step forward and have her signature layers styled we were behind her 100%. Bobs have been huge this year, especially in the graduated style – that is, longer bangs at the front and a short, severe cut at the back, curving into the neckline. Asymmetrical bobs have also been a hit, and they can be livened up even further with daring dyes and bright colours, such as that sported by Rihanna earlier this year.

Rihanna's firey color is a hit!

Finally, we love making waves when it comes to hairstyles – big, voluminous waves that frame the face and accentuate the features. Love her or hate her, Kim Kardashian has become a major fashion icon in her own right during 2011, and her glamorous waves have been an inspiration to many. This look requires a lot of lift, so be sure to stock up on thickening products and sprays to give your hair extra hold.

Celebrity looks now

Celebrities have it all, the great career, the healthy bank balance, the teams of stylists, a wardrobe most of us can only envy, hairdressers and make-up artists on speed dial and a whole hoard of parties to attend.

Though we may envy them, they are however the go-to for any style inspiration we may wish for!

Check out any one of the news sites online. You will be able to view the celebs in all their glory at any one of the parties they may have attended!

Many online departments stores and fashion retailers in fact stock high street lookalikes at affordable prices.  This is great news for those that love the looks yet don’t quite have the bank balances that the stars do!

Try to mix highstreet with designer, this way you will be able to create an upmarket outfit that costs a fraction of the cost of a head to toe designer outfit

Be careful when trying to recreate a look you have seen on one celeb, as just because it suits them, this doesn’t mean it will suit you!  Everyone has a different style and shape and certain shapes suit different things to others.

For example curvaceous figures suit a very different type of attire to those with slim frames, this doesn’t mean that both of the above can’t look amazing.

Try to pick a celebrity that offers both a similar height and size to yourself if you really wish to recreate the look exactly!  Then visit an array on online fashion sites in order to create a look that screams A-list.

A subtle pink lip

Posted by on November 3, 2011 at 3:23 pm in Celebrities

Forget brighter than bright if you want to impress your guy.  Apparently 51% of men prefer a subtle pink lip shade.  Take a few style tips from Blake Lively.  The stylish star loves a slick of simple lip gloss.

Check out Laura Mercier Lip Glace in bare, which will cost just £18.50.

It’s the perfect daytime look and will work just as well for work as it will on a shopping trip with the girls.

Don’t get me wrong, shocking colours can look fabulous occasionally but this look only suits certain events.  Rocking up to the office in an uber neon shade may not go down too well with the clients!

Red is more attention seeking so again only don this shade if you wish to cause a little bit of a stir!

style crushes 2011

Posted by on November 3, 2011 at 3:19 pm in Celebrities

One particular star that is really causing quite a style stir this season is Katy P!  Her style is somewhat eccentric but never the less makes us sit up and pay attention!

She is always over the top but some how manages to pull the looks off!

One thing she always manages to get right is her eyes.  her bright shadow and heavy lashes create that sultry ‘look at me ‘ look.  She is very Monroe is some of her looks, which is possibly why the guys go crazy for her!

However if you want to re-create the heavy lash look, make sure you don’t go overboard!

Too much can make you look like a drag queen rather than a sultry pop princess!

Va Va Voom lash mascara will enhance your own lashes and work to create that wide eyed look and finish the look by framing your eyes with super neat brows!

Winter Jeans Style

Posted by on October 20, 2011 at 11:35 am in General

A key piece of almost everyone’s wardrobe, jeans have been around for a long time and hopefully will be around for many years to come. They go with just about anything, they can be dressed up for more casual days at work or worn with your favourite hoodie when it’s cold out and you’re curled up with a good book. Styles change though, and although a well fitting pair of bootcut jeans will never go out of fashion, here are the key looks for winter 2011:

Skinny
Yep, they’re still here. One of the top trends this season being ‘androgeny’, these work well with that, but they will go with most looks. They’re the ultimate in warmth and very chic when tucked into calf-length boots. If you have curvy hips, wear a long length top (or even a dress… Layering is hot this year too) and short waistcoat to show those curves and keep the cold where it belongs.

Wide
These are comfortable, look great and can be worn with anything. Figure hugging tops look great with a wide belt around the hips and a waist length jacket. Comfy shoes are best, dependng on the width of the leg, nobody will see them anyway so why kill your feet?

High Waist
If you’re a little chunky around the middle, these are great. They will slide over any bulges and give you a slimmer silhouette – great for the transition from the office to the evening. Don’t wear with a wide belt, a slim one will look much better and will add to the lengthening effect that this style brings.

Shorts
In winter? Really? But if you don’t want to wear a skirt but still can’t bear to cover your legs, these are something a little different. Wear with thick tights and short boots or leggings and killer heels.
